ASSIGNMENT-1PRE-VISIT REPORT ON MAHINDRA & MAHINDRA SWARAJ TRACTOR PLANT, MOHALI

INTRODUCTION:-

The Swaraj brand has a rich history emerging from the enormous demand for tractors during the Green Revolution of the mid-sixties.  The Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), a government agency, initiated the project of creating an indigenously built tractor.  Punjab Tractors Ltd purchased the design in 1970, and inherited nearly forty years of experience when they acquired PTL in 2008. The combination of Swaraj’s longstanding reputation with PTL’S cutting edge design and manufacturing has made the name Swaraj synonymous with power, reliability, and expertise.

Swaraj has become synonymous with tractors that are powerful and reliable because of their long term expertise in delivering such products consistently.

The Mohali plant, mainly produces under-40bhp tractors, is the oldest plant of the company and began operations in 1974 when 5 engineers from the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute of Durgapur developed a design of a tractor.

·         There are more than 7,00,000 satisfied customers of Swaraj in the country. Swaraj tractors are also exported to various countries including Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and the USA.

·         In each region Swaraj seeks to provide farmers with tractors and implements precisely suited to their agricultural conditions, helping them maximize their prosperity.
